THE PRAGUE DISTRICTS
Prague is a historic metropolis with roots dating back to the 9th century, when Prague Castle was founded, giving the city more than 1,100 years of rich history.
Today, Prague is ranked as one of the best places to live in the world thanks to its exceptional safety, dense public transport network, and high proportion of green spaces. Residents and visitors alike benefit from a unique blend of well-preserved medieval architecture and a modern lifestyle, although in 2026 the city faces challenges related to high housing costs.
Prague has approximately 1.4 million inhabitants. According to the latest available data from 2025, the exact number was 1,397,880 people. The wider metropolitan area, which also includes commuters from surrounding regions, has approximately 2.3 million people.
Prague is an international city, with approximately 25% of its residents being people born abroad.
Prague is officially divided into:
· Prague 1–10 (main city districts – what matters most for housing)
· plus smaller municipal districts (Prague 11–22, etc., typically housing estates and outer areas)
However, in real estate reality, people mainly talk about neighbourhoods, not numbers (Vinohrady, Karlín, Dejvice, etc.) since there can be significant differences between them.
